Robert C. Marwick was born in and brought up on the island of Rousay in Orkney. He received his early education at the Wasbister and Sourin schools on the island before going on to the Kirkwall Grammar school. War service, mainly in the Far East, took up the next five years. He then enrolled at Aberdeen University and after graduation trained to become a teacher. His first teaching post was in Caithness, but after two years he moved to Ayrshire where he taught in four successive schools, in three of them as headmaster. At the time of his retiral he was head of a large primary school in Kilwinning, where he now resides. Since retiring he has researched the histories of the old Rousay families. This to the private publication of his first book, Rousay Roots, in 1994. His second book, From My Rousay Schoolbag, was published by Brinnoven in 1995. In Dreams We Moor, his third book, was published by Brinnoven in 2000. |
