RAM configurations
------------------

The Turbo 601 requires that at least 256K of RAM be installed in bank A of the Mac IIci motherboard.

System software
----------------

The Turbo 601 requires System 7.5 or greater for operation. You must perform a Custom - "System for any Macintosh" when installing System 7.5. Refer to the Turbo 601 manual for complete "How to" instructions.

If you are installing the System 7.5 Update 1.0 refer below:
----------------------------------------------------------------

There is a programmable Patch ROM on the Turbo 601. This Patch ROM must be updated with the new program to operate with the System 7.5 Update 1.0. The following instructions will describe how to program the Patch ROM. Shipping versions of the Turbo 601 will include this new Patch ROM version, so this note only applies to customers with the older version of the Patch ROM (1.0 or 1.0.1) To determine what Patch ROM version you have, click on the Turbo 601 logo within the control panel while holding down the control, option and command keys. The Patch ROM version will be displayed.

1) If System 7.5 Update is not installed go to step 3.

2) If you have already installed System 7.5 Update 1.0 and are experiencing problems, you will need to zap the PRAM. This can be done by holding the control, command,"p" and "r" keys down while starting your Macintosh. (Hold these keys down until you hear the second bong.) Or remove the Turbo 601 from the PDS slot. Either way, you should run the System 7.5 Update 1.0 Installer and select the remove option. Alternately, once you are booted, move the "System 7.5 Update" file out of the system folder.

3) Run the Turbo 601 Installer. Open the Turbo 601 Control panel and select 601 mode, then restart. You should now be in 601 mode.

4) Open the"Turbo 601 Control" control panel. This will present a dialog to update the Patch ROM. Click OK.

5) Run the System 7.5 Update 1.0 to install the new update. (If you moved the "System 7.5 Update" file out of the system folder in step 2, put it back in.)

6) Run the Turbo 601 Installer again. This step is required to install additional system files required for best operation.

7) Reboot the machine. All changes are done.

NuBus add-in cards

NuBus cards must be Power Macintosh compatible in order to work with your Turbo 601. There are two classes of compatibility: "Accelerated for Power Macintosh" means that the product runs at full speed with the Power Macintosh, while "Power Macintosh Compatible" means that the product works in a Power Mac but not at full speed. Most video cards sold prior to the introduction of the Power Macs are "Power Macintosh Compatible" and require a ROM or software upgrade in order to be "Accelerated for Power Macintosh." (In these cases, accelerated video cards without the update will no longer operate in accelerated mode). And while some existing cards may work with the Turbo 601 we recommend that you consult the Power Macintosh compatibility list that came with the Turbo 601 or contact the cards vendor to ensure that you are running the latest Power Mac version of the ROM or software for each of your NuBus cards.

If you have problems with a video card, try turning off all the features of your card. Then turn each feature on, one at a time, to find which ones will work with the Power Macintosh ROMs in the Turbo 601.

The FWB JackHammer is supported, however drives connected to the JackHammer cannot be used to store the Virtual Memory swap file, nor can these drives be used as the boot drive if Virtual Memory is turned on.

To support the FWB JackHammer, the "Enable SCSI Manager 4.3" switch in the "advanced features" portion of the control panel must be on. This should be turned on before installing the board. If this is not done, the machine will not boot.

Software Products
------------------

Ram Doubler 1.5.1 from Connectix requires a patch to work with the Turbo 601. Contact Connectix at 1(800)950-5880 for more information. Versions of Ram Doubler 1.5.2 or greater should work fine.
